EKO Recalls Motion Sensor Trash Cans Sold Exclusively at Costco Due To Laceration Hazard

EKO Sensible Eco Living Motion Sensor Trash Cans manufactured in China, imported by Costco Wholesale Corporation, of Issaquah, Washington and sold exclusively at Costco stores and Costco.com was recalled on July 17, 2015. The recall (number 15-742) involves approximately 367,000 trash cans which were sold between December 2013 and June 2015.

The 21 gallon (80 liters) stainless steel trash can is about 31 inches tall and about 14 inches square. The Model number EK9288BMT-80L is located on the product identification label on the underside of the lid.

The Consumer Product Safety Commissioner reported that the black plastic protective collar in the opening on the back of the trash can can become dislodged and expose a sharp edge which poses a risk of laceration to the user.
At least 13 reports of laceration injuries have been reported to EKO.

Consumers should immediately discontinue using the trash cans and have the option of either returning them to Costco for a full refund, or contacting EKO at 800-354-7426 for a free repair kit. Consumers can also order a repair kit online at EKO’s website .
